With the 2023 Florida hurricane season officially kicking off on June 1 and stretching out as far as November 30, we’re all gearing up for some unpredictable weather ahead.

The team at Boggs Law Group thought today would be the ideal time to talk about how to get you, your home, and your family prepared, and what to do if the worst should happen.

Let’s get ready, Florida!

What can we expect this hurricane season?

It feels like we’re still reeling from the impact of hurricane season 2022 yet we’re already thinking ahead.

With just days until the start of the season, Colorado State University has forecast that the 2023 hurricane season will have slightly below-average activity. Forecasters at the university have predicted 13 named storms, six hurricanes, and two major hurricanes (these are storms Category 3 and above).

However, forecasters at AccuWeather have issued their own forecast, with between 11 and 15 named storms predicted.

One thing we know for sure is that the Sunshine State is prone to hurricanes, so Floridians will find themselves keeping an eye on the weather news over the next few months.

Tips on staying safe

If you’re a Florida homeowner, no doubt hurricane preparation will be at the front of your mind. Your safety, as well as your family, and protecting your home, is your top priority. Let’s look at how you can get ready for the 2023 Florida hurricane season.

  1. Prepare your family

The top item on your to-do list should be to establish a hurricane emergency kit. This should contain essentials such as non-perishable foods, water, medicine, and a flashlight with spare batteries.

The next step is to talk to your family about a family emergency plan. Everyone must stay inside, perhaps in a room with no windows in case of shattered glass.

  1. Keep alert

Stay tuned to the radio or TV for weather updates and government evacuation orders. Download apps that can help you to locate shelters and provide key information.

  1. Prepare your home

You’ll want to get ahead of those strong winds by bringing all of your yard furniture in and securing any trampolines, bicycles, barbeques, and anything loose in your yard, so that you can minimize any flying debris.

Some homeowners place plywood on their windows or install storm shutters or impact-resistant glass.

Here for you, whatever the weather

Amy and the team at Boggs Law Group are all too aware of the havoc that hurricanes wreak on our communities. We have helped countless people to fight the insurance companies for the compensation they need. As we brace for the 2023 Florida hurricane season, we remind you that should your home be damaged by a hurricane or windstorm, we are here for you.

Remember, claiming compensation on your home insurance policy is essential for the expensive repairs required for roofs and structural damage. However, insurance companies often complicate matters, making an already difficult situation worse. They’re sadly known to dispute claims, making what should be fair and straightforward into a complex game of denials, delays, and lowball settlement offers. Sadly, we’ve seen this too many times to count.

At Boggs Law Group, we are experts in managing claims that allow you and your family to rebuild and move on after a windstorm or extreme weather event.

Trust the hardworking and dedicated team at Boggs Law Group is here to help.

It’s our experience that counts. We know how to fight for what our clients deserve.
